Engines
The core of every tactical military vehicle is the engine that makes it move. The major engine OEMs in the military fleet are Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar, Cummins, and General Motors. MTP has experience working on all these OEM engine platforms and has established relationships with parts distributors to continue servicing these engines.
Our Process
When MTP rebuilds an engine, it goes through a complete remanufacturing effort. Generally, this means that the original block, head, crankshaft, camshaft and connecting rods are reused but remanufactured to OEM specifications. Magnetic particle inspection (Magnaflux) is the industry standard method of detecting cracks and voids in any ferrous engine part. This procedure is part of our standard process to ensure the quality of reused components even though the use of this procedure is only occasionally required in government contracts.
MTP possesses the machining capability and qualified personnel in-house to do all engine remanufacturing machining processes. The piston rings, bearings, gaskets and seals, oil pump, timing and valve train components get replaced with new parts. Exact specifications, replacement items, and process steps are adapted to meet government contract requirements. Every engine is reassembled by a single builder and held responsible for the performance of each engine. Every engine is dyno tested on one of our three dynamometers. Our normal dyno test runs a series of OEM tests to ensure all electronics and accessories are working correctly as well as verify peak performance. Again, exact specifications, replacement items, and process steps are adapted to meet each government contract requirement. You can expect that an MTP rebuilt engine will meet or exceed the OEM specifications.
